What Is Efficiency Arizona?

A Statewide Rebate Program to Make Your Home More Efficient

Efficiency Arizona is a rebate program that helps qualified households install highly efficient appliances and HVAC equipment to improve energy efficiency, home comfort, and lower their energy bills. It is funded through the U.S. Department of Energy Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program. The amount you receive is based on your household income, and rebates are applied directly to your project, so there is no waiting on a check in the mail.

The program also offers rebates for a heat pump water heater (up to $1,750), a heat pump clothes dryer (up to $840), and an ENERGY STAR electric stove, cooktop, range, or oven (up to $840).
* Electrical panel and wiring rebates are only available when installed along with a qualified appliance. All amounts are maximums and per appliance or material. The rebate may not cover the full cost of the product; the applicant is responsible for the remaining balance, plus taxes and installation fees.

How Much Is the Arizona Heat Pump Rebate?

Your rebate depends on your household income. Area Median Income (AMI) is the median household income for your area, and it varies by county and household size. The lower your household income, the more of your project the rebate covers.
Tier 1

Income below 80% AMI

100% of project cost

Heat pump example: average installed cost about $13,263. With an $8,000 rebate, your estimated out-of-pocket cost is about $5,263.
Tier 2

Income 80% to 150% AMI

50% of project cost
covered, up to each rebate limit
Heat pump example: average installed cost about $13,263. With a 50% rebate, your estimated out-of-pocket cost is about $6,632.

Eligibility Requirements

Two Ways to Qualify

You can qualify either through your household income or by participating in a qualifying assistance program. You only need to meet one of the two.

1. Income Qualification

Your gross (before tax) household income is at or below 150% of Area Median Income for your county and household size. Households above 150% AMI are not eligible.

2. Categorical Eligibility

You may automatically qualify if someone in your household is enrolled in a program such as SNAP, AHCCCS (Medicaid), LIHEAP, WIC, SSI, Lifeline, Head Start, the National School Lunch Program (Free), Public Housing, or Weatherization Assistance.

Other Things to Know Before You Apply

  • You must be an Arizona homeowner who lives in the home (renters and multifamily properties are not currently eligible).
  • The heat pump rebate is for a first-time heat pump. It can replace a gas, propane, or oil system, or an electric furnace, boiler, or baseboard heater, but homes that already have a heat pump do not qualify for the heat pump rebate.
  • Equipment must be ENERGY STAR certified.
  • Projects must be approved before any work begins and installed by a Qualified Contractor. Completed projects are not eligible.
